Every job board eventually gets a bad post. A scam, a listing for something that isn't really a job, or a post that's clearly not what it claims to be. The question is how long it sits there before something happens. If it has to wait in a queue for a moderator to get around to it, more contractors can come across it in the meantime.
On Jobiteer, job posts that get reported by enough different people are taken down automatically.
How it works for job posts
If you see a post that doesn't look legitimate, you can report it and add details about what's wrong. When enough separate people report the same post, Jobiteer hides it from the board right away. There's no waiting for someone to review it first. The post is also closed, so no one else can unlock it.
Our team is alerted at the same time and reviews what happened. If a post turns out to have been reported unfairly, it can be restored.
What happens if you already unlocked it
A hidden post is closed like any other finished job. So if you unlocked it and the homeowner never replied to you and didn't hire you, the usual rule applies: your unlock credits come back automatically.
Reports about people work a little differently
You can also report a user, not just a post. Those reports aren't used to hide anyone automatically. Instead, when enough people report the same user, our team is alerted to review the account. Taking action against a person's whole account is a bigger step than hiding a single post, so a human makes that call.
Built so it can't be easily abused
An automatic system is only fair if a small group can't use it to knock down legitimate posts. So Jobiteer includes safeguards:
- Only separate people count. Reporting the same post more than once doesn't add up. It takes reports from different accounts.
- Not every report counts the same way. Some reports don't count toward hiding a post, which makes it harder to game the system with throwaway accounts.
- Repeat reports face a higher bar. If something is restored after review and then reported again, it takes more reports to hide it the next time.
- There's a limit on how many reports one account can file, so a single account can't mass-report its way through the board.
What it means for you
The system works best when contractors use it. If a post looks like a scam, isn't a real job, or is trying to route you somewhere else, report it. Each report helps get bad posts off the board faster, for you and for everyone else browsing.
No system catches everything the moment it appears. But when enough people flag a bad post, it doesn't sit around waiting. It comes down.
